Frequently Asked Questions

What is a massage and what can it do?
Massage is the application, usually by hand, of
systematic stroking or manipulation to the soft tissues of the body for
therapeutic purposes. The most well known massage movements are those that
involve stroking and gliding (effleurage), kneading (petrissage), and
percussion (tapotement) to soft tissues of the body. Massage can promote
overall relaxation, increases flexibility, increases range of motion,
relieves muscle tension and knots, alleviates pain and discomfort,
increases and improves general circulation in the body, and can reduce
stress and refresh.
What should I expect?
On our first session, I will be asking you questions about your
general health, specific injuries and whether or not you're under a
doctor's care. This is the time for you to ask me any questions you may
have. It will only take a couple of minutes and this will not cut into
your massage time.
The room we will be using for the massage will be clean, private and
quiet. I provide my own music to enhance your relaxation. However, if you
have a preference for your own music that is completely acceptable. Also,
I use my own massage lotion, cream, or oil. (non-scented and
hypoallergenic) If you have a product of your own that you like me to use
on your skin, I will be more than happy to use it.
I will then give you instructions on how I want you on the table (face
up/down etc.) and give you a moment of privacy to change.
During my massage?
Just try to RELAX......If you are getting a massage for relaxation,
there should be little to no talking. For deep tissue work the therapist
will probably be communicating with you to make sure you are comfortable
with the pressure and to remind you to breathe and relax. As the client,
you control the massage - talk / no talk - music / no music / different
music - scents / no scents - deeper / lighter. If you are uncomfortable in
any way, Let me know. Communication is key to a successful massage. I am
hear to help you, this is your massage.
Do I have to take my clothes off?
For a massage involving lotion or oil, yes, you do need to be
undressed. This will allow me access to your body. However, if you are
uncomfortable being completely disrobed, you should leave your
undergarments on - I can and will work around them. Your comfort is a
priority, draping will always be provided.
After your massage? Aftercare?
When the massage is over, I will again give you a moment of privacy to get
up from the table and get dressed.
After a massage you can or may feel dizzy, tired, relaxed, refreshed. You
should drink plenty of water to flush the toxins out of your system. For
the first 24 hours after a deep tissue massage you may feel a little sore
or achy. This is a normal reaction. Rest, healthy eating and plenty of
fluids will help minimize this reaction. |
